Title: Fair Division with Single Crossing
Abstract:
We define a new domain of preferences in the problem of fair division of indivisible objects called the single crossing domain. Single crossing is a non-monotone domain with non-trivial intersections with well-studied existing preference domains. It also nests interesting subdomains that are not studied extensively in the literature. We explore certain interesting structural properties of the domain while highlighting that it remains relatively general. We use Sperner's fixed-point argument to show that an allocation that is envy-free up to a transfer exists in a minimally restricted domain that satisfies single-crossing. We also explore a new model that serves as a bridge between the goods and chores problem and provide an algorithm that shows the existence of EF1 in this model under suitable additive restrictions.
