Title: Optimization for Healthcare Systems Microsoft Teams Link
Abstract:
Modern healthcare involves complex decision-making problems where treatment quality, physical and biological constraints, and computational efficiency must be considered simultaneously. My research develops structure-aware optimization methods that exploit mathematical, physical, and biological structure to address these challenges, with applications in radiation therapy and healthcare decision-making. I will discuss two representative projects. The first addresses collimator position optimization for radiation therapy in cancer treatment, formulating the device positioning and radiation-intensity selection as a mixed-integer optimization problem and developing an efficient computational strategy that avoids exhaustive enumeration. The second addresses beam angle optimization in radiation therapy to improve angle selection for radiation delivery. This work develops a hybrid quantum-classical framework that combines quantum optimization for discrete beam selection with classical optimization for continuous radiation-intensity optimization. Together, these projects motivate my broader research vision of developing rigorous, scalable, and structure-aware optimization methods for complex healthcare and engineering decision systems, integrating mathematical optimization with emerging computational paradigms.
