Talk by Dr Mamatha Bhat
Clinical Deployment of AI Tools in Liver Disease and Transplants
The goal of Dr. Bhat’s research program is to improve long-term outcomes of liver transplantation through a precision medicine approach. Her program is unique in using tools of Artificial Intelligence with bioinformatics to personalize the care of liver transplant recipients based on an improved biological understanding of the liver and disease after transplant
Transplant AI Initiative (TAI) is based on a solid foundation of clinical knowledge, computer science and data analytics and will facilitate advancements in the four major fields of interest:
- Donor/recipient matching
- Prioritization of organ allocation
- Long-term post-transplant complications
- Equity for organ allocation
Dr Mamatha Bhat is a staff Hepatologist and clinician-scientist at UHN's Multi Organ Transplant Program and UofT's Division of Gastroenterology. She graduated from medical school at McGill University and completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the McGill University Health Centre. She completed an MSc in Experimental Medicine, as part of the Royal College Clinician Investigator Program, followed by a fellowship in Transplant Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She subsequently completed a PhD in Medical Biophysics through a CIHR Fellowship for Health Professionals. She has established a research program that uses a systems biology approach to liver disease and transplantation.
